What can I do to help the homeless on Long Island?

There are several ways you can help the homeless in your community:

Donate money or goods: You can donate money to local homeless shelters, food banks, and other organizations that provide services to the homeless. You can also donate clothing, blankets, and other essentials.

Volunteer your time: Many homeless shelters and organizations rely on volunteers to help with tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and mentoring.

Support local efforts: Look into local initiatives that aim to address homelessness, such as housing programs and job training programs, and see how you can support them.

Educate yourself and others: Learn more about the causes of homelessness and the challenges faced by homeless individuals. Share this information with your family, friends, and community to raise awareness.

Be kind and respectful: Treat homeless individuals with dignity and respect, and avoid stereotypes and assumptions. If you want to help, ask what they need or offer specific help like food or a warm drink.

Advocate for policy change: Reach out to your elected representatives and advocate for policies that address homelessness, such as funding for affordable housing and services for people experiencing homelessness.

It's important to note that helping the homeless is not only about giving money, but also about understanding their situation and working together to find solutions to address the root causes of homelessness. Additionally, it's always recommended to research and volunteer with reputable organizations that have a track record of effectively addressing homelessness in your area.

Are you homeless? We want to help you. Please call us. We are willing to provide needed supplies, to help you live the way you're living, or help to get off the streets.

You're always in charge, just reach out and let us help you.
